Vacation Is Over

After a couple of weeks of downtime, the last few days have been pretty busy and exciting! In July I released my new novella Tormented on Amazon. Check out the beautiful cover a very talented cover artist created for me:

Yesterday Tormented, a romantic suspense with military man and businesswoman turned cowgirl, was listed as the Impulse Buy of the week by author Liana Brooks.  Check it out here and say "Hi" to Liana while you are there. She is a fantastic writer.

Now for the really big news. As some of you may know, the publisher for my romantic mystery Undercover in Six Inch Stilettos closed its doors May 1st. Since then Undercover  and the rest of the Secret Lives series has been in a bit of a limbo. Last month I pitched the second book in the series to several publishers during a Twitter pitch event. (Very cool! I had to convince people to read my book in a 140 character Tweet.) I had some interest, which in itself was really exciting but one publisher not only asked to read that book but also Undercover. A couple of days later they offered me a contract on the entire series! As of this morning, I signed said contract and now have a home for my series. I'll keep you posted as I have more to report.

With just a month left before I go back to work for my 15th year in teaching, I have a great deal of work to get done on the writing front. I'm twenty thousand words into my new work in progress and believe it or not, it's not a mystery. More on that later as well.

Finally, if you are looking for a little something to steam up the dog days of summer check out this new adult novel by Allie Kincheloe:

On Vacations and New Releases

I hope you are enjoying the pleasures of summer as much as I am. We have just return from our annual pilgrimage north of the Mason-Dixon line. Let me tell you- when you leave ten days straight of near 100 degree temperatures and arrive in 65 degrees and rainy it is quite the shock to the system. I actually had to go and buy some pants and sweatshirts for the kids while we were away.

It was a great trip though, spending time with long distance family, visiting all of our favorite places and sneaking off to indulge in some farm fresh ice cream.

While we were away, my very first serial novel, Tormented was released. Former special forces turned rancher Ben Callahan finally meets a woman that helps him put his demons to rest.  Meet Ben and Layla on Amazon today. (Free with Kindle Unlimited) Their story won't disappoint- there is mystery, action, humor and of course, romance!

As long as I am showing off covers, one of my older works recently received a facelift and I really love it. If you enjoy a good crime story (no romance in this one!) then you might enjoy this bank heist crime story.  Also found on Amazon and free with KU

One last thing... for those of you that read and enjoyed Witness Protection...the sequel, Homeland Security, is set to be released at the beginning of August! More to come on that. Have a great day!

Undercover in Six Inch Stilettos re-releasing this month...check out the review it got!

Re-releasing to Amazon June 2015!

Undercover in Six Inch Stilettos- Book One of the new Secret Lives of Police Wives series.

Mystery, crime-fighting, romance and humor all in one place!

Amy W. at Romancing the Book calls it a Lovely Rose in her review below:

Review:  Author Carolyn LaRoche takes the typical police/crime story and jazzes it up by introducing a fantastic cast of characters featuring police wives.
In Undercover in Six Inch Stilettos, readers are introduced to Cyndi, a happily married police wife and mother. In order to help make ends meet, she has a job on the side that she’s not exactly forthcoming about.
When one of her fellow dancers disappears, Cyndi is drawn into a web or drama and intrigue. With the support of her online group of police wives, Cyndi tries out her sleuthing skills, complete with tassels and stilettos.
Although I seriously doubt that a policeman would be so oblivious of his wife’s actions, I was impressed with the storyline. It was a breath of fresh air offering a new perspective for those of us who enjoy romantic suspense.
With a unique storyline, a perfect dance playlist and even a cross-dressing bartender, this story is packed with all the ingredients for a fun read. Not only are the main characters still rocking it between the sheets after 10 years together, but they are both perfectly depicted in their roles.
I can certainly see where the author has room for additional stories featuring the other police wives. A story featuring the one who moonlights as a 1-900 operator should be very interesting.

Meet Aunt Clara- Three Days Until Witness Protection is Re-Released!

Logan James was raised by his Aunt Clara after a devastating loss of his own parents as a preteen. His twin cousins Kaiden and Keegan are like brothers to him and despite the trauma of his youth, he was raised well and is very close to his family. When he and Angelina need somewhere safe to lay low while they figure out who is trying to kill her, Logan takes Angelina to his Aunt Clara's place in the mountains. Aunt Clara is a crack shot who says whatever is on her mind and always calls it like she sees it...

"This place belongs to your aunt?" Angelina said in disbelief.

"Sure does. After my uncle died, she inherited a tidy sum of family money that she held onto. Once the three of us boys were out of school and out on our own, she moved to this mountain. You are now looking at a large chunk of that inheritance."

Angelina opened the door of the Jeep and gingerly stepped down from the cab. Logan made a note to find her some shoes as soon as they were settled. Aunt Clara had to have something she could use.

Suddenly the door to the cabin flew open. A little woman with a very big rifle jumped through the door yelling at the top of her lungs. "Get down on the ground! I ain't afraid to use this thing! Get down!"

The woman waved the gun wildly in the air. Angelina dropped to her knees even as Logan took a step forward, laughing.

 "Aunt Clara! It's me, Logan!"

The little woman stopped yelling the instant she heard Logan's voice. With a hand held above her eyes to block out what little sun made its way through the trees, she called out, "Logan? What are you doing here?"

"Where are your glasses, Aunt Clara?" He was still laughing as he crossed the clearing between them and grabbed his slight-figured aunt up in a bear hug.

"Well, you know I got no patience for those things, boy. They just keep sliding down off my nose."

Logan laughed again. His aunt was his favorite person in the world. After the death of his mother, she was the only adult left in his life he felt that he could trust. He still felt that way.

"If you had them on you might not have come so close to shooting us!" He gestured to Angelina who was pulling herself up off the ground, disdain clouding her features. Logan frowned. The last twenty-four hours had been more of a trial for her than any one human being should have to go through. It was time to get her settled and figure out a way to get her out of this mess without endangering her life any further.

Walking back to where Angelina leaned against the Jeep watching them warily, Logan took her hand and gently led her to the cabin steps where his aunt stood squinting at them.

"Angelina Ferrara, meet my aunt, Clara James"

"Nice to meet you, Ms. James." Angelina reached out to shake the older woman's hand, but Clara grabbed her up in the same sort of bear hug he'd greeted his aunt with. Logan watched with amusement.

"Oh, posh! Call me Clara, will you! No formalities around this here place." She gestured toward the cabin behind her. "Come, let's get you inside, dear. Whatever happened to your shoes?" Clara gave her the once over from head to toe. "Hmmm...I may not have my glasses on, Logan, but isn't that the shirt I gave you for your birthday? I definitely think we all need to sit down with some hot breakfast and have a long talk."
Aunt Clara had always been insightful. Of course, him showing up with a woman she knew nothing

of wearing his clothes and shoeless probably would have set off warning bells in anyone's head, no

matter how clear their vision.
